William Hill earnings enhanced by online wagering

William Hill stated a strong performance in online betting helped to increase its very first quarter operating revenues by 8%.
More sporting bets were made online than in its betting shops, with an increasing number placed through its mobile apps.
The company said, external that although it had a poor Cheltenham Festival, it had better luck in the Champions League.
It was the very first time no English football team had remained in the quarter finals because 1996.

On Monday, rival bookmaker Ladbrokes cautioned that trading had been even worse than expected in the first three months of the year.
The company blamed a drop in make money from the Cheltenham Festival and lower incomes from high value bettors. It added that a high variety of cancelled conferences, because of the severe winter, had likewise impacted its outcomes.
Richard Hunter, head of equities at Hargreaves Lansdown Stockbrokers, said: "William Hill's efficiency and prospects remain in stark contrast to the difficulties presently being dealt with at Ladbrokes.
"There are, of course, headwinds, such as the fierceness of competitors in the yohaig code sector and the typically pushed customer, but these are difficulties which the entire market is dealing with," he included.
